Quantum Questions

Appendix D, prepared jointly by Kenneth Ford and Diane Goldstein (a teacher at Germantown Academy) contains over 300 questions keyed to individual chapters. Most of them are “Review Questions” that straightforwardly test comprehension of the reading. Some are “Challenge Questions” that may require more independent thinking or, in some cases, calculating.

The main purpose of the Quantum Questions is to make the book more suitable for classroom use, especially in a high-school course or a college course for nonscience students. The book could serve as principal reading for a unit of several weeks on modern physics, which might typically come near the end of the course. In an innovative course, it could also be used at the beginning to help stimulate excitement about physics. In a short special-topic course, it could be the main text.

For the general reader (one not enrolled in a physics course), the Quantum Questions may also be of interest as a way for the reader to check his or her understanding.
